The world doesn’t revolve around sports – and the ratings prove it. The NBA, WNBA, MLB, NFL, NHL and collegiate sports have taken a backseat to the threat of COVID, Transgender rights, and political correctness. How did we as humans get to this position? Let’s start with the root of all evil: political correctness.
The sports world cannot stay silent about social issues, and that’s their right – unless it conflicts with their money – that’s where the political correctness is demonstrated. The NBA has a large fanbase in China and most of the NBA sports apparel like shoes, shirts, socks, and hats are produced and manufactured in Chinese factories with little-to-no regulations on safety and human rights.
During the 2019-2020 Hong Kong protests to maintain Democracy, the Chinese Communist Party used violence to side skirt the protests, and then took action against the NBA for a tweet supporting the antigovernment protests that Houston Rocket’s general manager Daryl Morey broadcasted. NBA star Lebron James took the side of the Chinese Communist Party and stated:
“I don’t want to get into a … feud with Daryl but I believe he wasn’t educated about the situation at hand, and he spoke,” James said. “Just be careful what we tweet … even though, yes, we do have freedom of speech. But there can be a lot of negative that comes with that too.”
Enes Freedom, an NBA player who is outspoken against the Chinese Communist Party was traded from the Boston Celtics on February 13, 2022, to the Houston Rockets and then cut from the team.
What does Turkish-born Enes get for his loyalty to his new homeland of America?
“I talked about Turkey 10 years, not one phone call,” Kanter told me. “I talked about China one day, I’m getting phone calls every hour.”
The Chinese Communist Party has influence in-virtually every part of the world. The CCP fanbase reacted swiftly to Enes Freedom losing his NBA position.
The Global Times, a Chinese Communist Party sympathizing news organization released this statement:
“NBA team the Houston Rockets, which has a large fan base in China, waived the controversial Enes Kanter Freedom after acquiring the center via a trade with the Boston Celtics…After [ESPN], announced the trade through a Twitter post, netizens swarmed to the platform, mocking the player who has been ignorant and arrogant on China’s core interests and internal affairs such as those involving Xinjiang, Xizang, and Taiwan…Broadcasters in China have yet to resume games featuring the Celtics, making the anti-China Kanter Freedom look like a burden to the league that has hundreds of millions audience members in China…If this is the end of his NBA career, Freedom’s future path doesn’t seem as surprising as he makes it out to be. ‘Now you can be a full time John Bolton puppet,’ commented Chen Weihua, China Daily’s EU bureau chief, receiving over 1,600 likes.
Freedom wasn’t a popular character in the NBA…He called out Lebron James, one of the greatest basketball players ever, last November, for not standing up to sponsor Nike and its alleged use of ‘forced labor’ in China, which proved to be fictitious and fabricated. James responded that Freedom tried to use his name ‘to create an opportunity for himself,” and “he’s definitely not someone I would give my energy to.’ …Freedom repeatedly made false and irresponsible comments regarding China’s Xinjiang in 2021. Meanwhile, he publicly declared his support for Xizang and Taiwan secessionists.”
Enes Freedom is the definition of the American dream. His native home of Turkey has revoked his citizenship and issued an international warrant for his arrest. They’ve stated that he has connections to Hizmet, an Islamist fraternal group (Kanter is a practicing Muslim). Enes has called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan “the Hitler of our century” and has faced increased pressure from Turkish politicians to be silenced.
The modern-day Nazi concentration camps are well and alive in the Chinese Communist Party. Between 1-3 million Uyghurs have been imprisoned, tortured, and “reeducated for Communism” in the last 5 years.
The BBC states: “There are around 12 million Uyghurs in China. The Uyghurs speak their own language, which is similar to Turkish, and see themselves as culturally and ethnically close to Central Asian nations. They make up less than half of the Xinjiang population.”
If you research “Uyghurs in China” on Google, no American news articles show up on the search results – only the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) dedicated their news cycle to it. This isn’t really a surprise, even the minority owner of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors stated that “‘nobody cares about Uyghur genocide in China“.
